Chapter 234: A Perfect Match

Chapter 234: A Perfect Match

Madame Gu was still mumbling something when Gu Chaoyan stopped listening to her. Before she left, she said, “I am not going to beg for Princess Gu, but I will ask the King to spare the Gu Family.”

As she finished saying the words, she left without saying anything more.

Madame Gu did not utter any more sound. She might have been moved by what this girl had said, but Gu Chaoyan was not feeling very satisfied with what she had promised. If she begged for mercy for the Gu Family, both Mrs. Gu and Gu Ruxue would be spared as well.

After she walked out of the room, Gu Chaoyan did not see where Mrs. Gu and Gu Ruxue were. They must have hidden themselves somewhere else.

Then she noticed someone coming towards her. It was Zhou Huaijin.

Instead of saying anything more, he pointed in a direction, suggesting that they should take a walk.

He should not talk too much here at Biquan Palace.

There were always ears out for whispers here in the place. Princess Virtue was not a very careless person.

They walked for a very long time until they came to a quiet place, where Zhou Huaijin took hold of Gu Chaoyan’s hands, asking with a look of uncertainty, “Will you blame me?”

“For what?”

“Princess Gu is dead, and Madam Gu had a stroke. That is a huge strike for the Gu Family and I am the cause of all of these. Will you hate me for being so ferocious?” Zhou Huaijin asked with a guilty tone. He found out what happened to Madame Gu on the way here.

He had not planned to see Madame Gu having a stroke.

Gu Chaoyan shook her head.

“Actually, I can cure Madam Gu’s stroke. It is just a matter of acupuncture. But I did not do that. You think I am ferocious?” Gu Chaoyan asked. She did wonder what he would think of her, because such similar kinds of matters would happen quite often in the future.

Zhou Huaijin shook his head without hesitation. “Nope.”

Gu Chaoyan smiled briefly, “We are a perfect match, one being evil, the other ferocious. We don’t have to get anyone else involved.”

Zhou Huaijin laughed brightly. He was truly happy.

That was what he said to Yan when he asked her to marry him a long while ago. Great that she still remembered the words.

He patted her head gently.

The two continued to walk, feeling no pressure inside their hearts.

After a while, Gu Chaoyan suddenly thought of something and asked him, “The King must be very angry about what happened to Princess Gu. Did he get mad at you when you asked him to spare the Gu Family’s lives?”

Biquan Palace was Princess Virtue’s palace, even if Zhou Huaijin had been one of the witnesses, it should have been Princess Virtue who decided what to do with this matter. Zhou Huaijin accompanied her to the site only because he wanted to beg for mercy for the Gu Family. Yan, together with Gu Ruxue and Mrs. Gu were on the same boat, so that was all he could do.

So Gu Chaoyan felt a bit sorry for him.

As the question was raised Zhou Huaijin thought of something and shook his head, “Nope.”

“...”

“Before I was able to say anything, Princess Jing already asked him for mercy. Even my Queen Mother was not needed.” Zhou Huaijin said.

He found the whole thing peculiar. It must have been Lord Ling’s intention to spare the Gu Family, when Princess Jing did so.

Normally, Lord Ling would never consider marriage with the Gu Family since such a thing happened, but now... it seemed that they still wanted to stick to the marriage arrangement.

“What is he thinking?”
