Chapter 102 - Running To 6th Trench

Del jumped out of his trench and ran across the battlefield. The federal tanks were shooting their cannons at the imperial soldiers that hid in the trench. The combination of artillery strike and apache helicopter managed to turn the table for the convoy. Although the last one was rather unknown since it attacked from an altitude far above the ground and far beyond the range of human vision.

"Woah, contractor?" A soldier aimed his rifle at Del. He glared at Del before he lowered his own rifle.

"Relax. I\'m friendly, could you help me get to the trenches in front of me?" Del asked as he showed the medical supply to the soldier.

"As in providing covering fire for you? Yeah, sure, we can do it," the soldier said.

"Great, I\'m ready when you give me the signal," Del peeked out of the trench.

.

The soldier reloaded his rifle and the other soldiers checked on the remaining ammo on their machine guns. "Volley fire! Watch out for friendlies!" The soldier shouted and the other soldiers started shooting their rifles in barrage again.

Del climbed out of the second trench as he ran as the federal soldiers covered his back. Bullets were flying both from the back and the front while smoke was covering his vision as far as his eyes would go. Del continued running. He didn\'t care about the bullet flying back and forth. His utmost priority was to get the medical supply to the people in the sixth trench.

As Del approached the third trench, he fell to the trench as bullet his chest. Del fell to the muddy trench alongside the box with the trauma kit. One of the soldiers noticed him and helped him to stand up. Del checked his chest, the bullet didn\'t penetrate, but it definitely made a bulge on his ballistic plate.

"Damn, running from trench to trench, are you looking to get killed, kid?" The soldier commented. He then noticed that Del wasn\'t even bleeding, "Son, are you used to be the part of a special unit or something? Or are you just talented?"

"Maybe the last part," Del picked up the box from the ground.

"Talented, huh? Well, you\'ll make more money as a contractor anyway, kid, are you going to transport that med kit?" The soldier pointed his hand at the box.

"Yes," Del nodded.

"Why don\'t you take the trench connecting one trench to another? It will take a much longer time, but it\'s definitely safer although you have to be careful of enemy soldiers," the soldier said.

"Don\'t worry," Del carried the box with one hand and pulled the pistol out of his holster, "I\'m not exactly unprepared."

His pistol was the Five-seveN, chambered in 5.7x28mm bullet. He bought that pistol because he was afraid that an ordinary pistol wouldn\'t be able to pierce the regular material field that soldiers usually used. The bullet inside of his pistol was the armor-piercing variant of the 5.7 bullets.

"Good luck, kid, go to the left and immediately turn left again," the soldier said as he shot his rifle again.

Del ran in that direction while moving around the federal soldiers that fought back at the imperial soldiers. He ran across the trenches as he held the pistol firmly with his right hand. Del continued running and running while putting the sight of the pistol in front of his face.

The adrenaline was rushing through his blood, pushing his body through his limit as bullets were flying on top of his head. It was not his instinct to survive, it was his instinct to help the people that need that trauma kit. He heard the chatter on his radio. It was the main reason.

"HITMAN 2, HITMAN 2, WHERE\'S THE SUPPLY, OVER?"

"HITMAN 2, THIS IS HITMAN 4, WE HAVE HEAVY CASUALTIES, REQUESTING IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION, OVER!"

"HITMAN 2, WHERE THE FUCK ARE YOU ALL? WE HAVE BODIES HERE."

Over the comms, everyone was looking for Hubert, mainly because he was the only certified doctor there. The rest of them were just the combat medics that were taught basic first-aid. However, it was reasonable since Hubert was the only one that got a call sign beside the other doctors. Del only got a call sign because he was considered to be an outside contractor.

"CONTACT!" An imperial soldier noticed Del running and shot his bolt-action rifle at him.

Del pulled the trigger of his pistol and shot the running imperial soldiers in his direction. Del put his index finger on the trigger and pulled the trigger. One bullet flew to the head of that imperial soldier that ran in his direction.

"Damn, that was one hell of a brave runner," Del commented. Only one imperial soldier was charging that far. What kind of bravery did that soldier have? It was idiot rather than brave.

Del continued running afterward. His boots splashed against the liquid on the trench. The liquid stained his pants in dark brown with a little bit of red. Soldiers\' screams came from both left and right sides of his ears.

Some were cursing. Some were screaming for their mothers while others were giving commands to other soldiers by using their shout. Suddenly, Del tripped on something on the trench. He quickly stood up and noticed that he had tripped on a dead body. A hole dripped blood out of his head.

"HITMAN 11, THIS IS HITMAN 2, WHERE THE HELL IS MY MEDICAL SUPPLY?" Hubert shouted.

Del was too busy running, but he connected the radio to Anna so she was the one that replied immediately, "Hitman 2, this is Hitman 11, we are en route to your position, over."

"GOOD, BE QUICK ABOUT IT!"

"Yes, sir."

Del ran as fast as he could to the sixth trench. Once he arrived, what a scene was there. Soldiers were looking more like a pile of meat sack than a living being. Some had their head perforated by the tank rounds. A fragment as big as their own head ripped their heads apart.

Hubert was tying someone\'s hand by a makeshift tourniquet created from the pieces of clothing that he ripped from one of the dead soldiers. "Hold on, alright? Apply healing spell while I treat the other patients."

Del put the box right beside Hubert, "Doc, I have your supplies."

"Good gracious lord, thank you. Del, if you don\'t mind, how much medical training that you have?" Hubert asked as he opened the box with a knife.

"Only basic first-aid, sir," Del said.

"Good, that\'s more than good in this situation, grab some bandages and help some of these soldiers, MSVI and I will handle the harder case."

Del helped Hubert and the rest of MSVI in treating the other wounded soldiers in the front line. His job was to stop the bleeding using the available gauzes and bandages while the other more certified medical professionals were handling a more severe case such as fragmentations to chest or other internal injury.

"Hitman 11, this is Delta 1-3. All target is neutralized. RTB."

That radio communication ended the fire fight between the imperial soldiers and the federal soldiers. Everyone cheered in victory, but the medical staffs still had some heavy jobs to do. Hopefully, they would still have enough personnel in the convoy.
